Alleged illegal clinic operator arrested
A woman has been arrested by police for allegedly running an illegal clinic linked with a man’s death late last year, Qingpu District prosecutors said yesterday.
According to prosecutors, the woman, surnamed Jin, 47, set up an unlicensed clinic in Qingpu last June. A man surnamed He was said to have gone to Jin’s clinic to receive treatment for a hernia the same month. Jin allegedly prepared a liquid for He containing traditional Chinese medicine ingredients.
He suffered health complications after consuming this liquid in September and December, said prosecutors. On December 24, Jin allegedly injected glucose into He, who began vomiting and soon slipped into a coma.
After being transported to a hospital, He died from kidney failure and Jin was detained by law enforcement authorities the same day.
In January, Jin was also detained for one month and fined for her unlicensed treatment, prosecutors said.
