AN American man, 64, who fainted on a train on Metro Line 2 on Monday morning died despite medical treatment, the Metro operator said.
Passengers on the train called 120 immediately and helped to move him to the platform when the train arrived at the nearest stop — Jiangsu Road Station.
Two Chinese passengers, , including a nurse from the Putuo District Central Hospital, tried to resuscitate him at the platform and station staff also assisted.
An ambulance arrived at the station at about 15 minutes after he collapsed and took the passenger to Huadong Hospital. But he was declared dead about half an hour after arriving.
The cause of death is unknown.
In a separate incident, another passenger — possibly mentally ill — caused a disruption on Metro Line 10 near Longxi Road Station on Monday morning.
The man started a panic among passengers.
