American passenger dies after fainting on train
A 64-year-old American man died after fainting on a train on Metro Line 2 during yesterday’s morning rush hours despite receiving medical treatment.
The Metro operator said other passengers called the 120 medical hotline immediately and helped to move the American to the platform when the train stopped at Jiangsu Road Station. Two Chinese passengers, one of them a nurse from Putuo District Central Hospital, tried to resuscitate him and station staff also assisted.
An ambulance arrived at the station about 15 minutes after he collapsed and took him to Huadong Hospital, where he was declared dead about half an hour later. The cause of death is unknown.
