Ancient art comes to life

STARTING tomorrow, the Shanghai Xuhui Art Museum will open a high-tech exhibition on the centuries-old art of Dunhuang murals, an ancient city in northwest China’s Gansu Province.

The show uses computer graphics and video post-production technology to animate the murals of Dunhuang’s historic Yulin Grottoes. Museum screens will also bring to life examples of jile — a kind of music and dance performances held at royal courts or palaces — depicted on Dunhuang’s carvings and murals.

A group of trained volunteer high school students will be available to guide visitors through the displays. The exhibition is free to the public and runs through August 31.
