SHANGHAI Dragon TV has “employed” a chatbot as a weather reporter for its live breakfast show.
“I’m happy to start my new work during the winter solstice,” said “XiaoIce,” which was developed by Microsoft, during her debut broadcast on Tuesday morning.
In her first two days on the job, “XiaoIce” impressed many television viewers with her pleasant voice.
According to Microsoft, breakthroughs in text-to-speech AI have helped “XiaoIce” to score high points for linguistic naturalness, and hers is closer to the human voice than other speech synthesizers.
