Anger over courier delivery delay
THOUSANDS of courier packages destined for people in Shanghai have been delayed due to the sudden and unannounced closure of a franchise office.
YTO Express failed to deliver between 3,000 and 4,000 packages to recipients living near Gongqing Road, Yangpu District, sparking an angry public response.
At 2pm yesterday, about 10 recipients gathered in front of the closed YTO franchise at No 95 Gongqing Road. Frustrated and cold, they wondered where they needed to go to get their packages.
“According to digital tracking, the package arrived at the office last Friday,” Chen Xiaoan, an anxious recipient who lives nearby, told Shanghai Daily. “I haven’t received my package, so I came here and decided to pick it up myself, but only found a closed door.”
Others gathered at the closed office said they had called YTO Express’s customer service many times, but the line was busy.
Some speculated that the franchise operator had gone bankrupt and vacated the premises.
However, YTO Express denied this, telling Shanghai Daily that the franchise operator abruptly ended his franchise contract about 10 days ago.
But she assured that “the headquarters has organized a temporary place on No 143 Yanji Road E to dispatch the [delayed] packages, which will be cleared in two days,” she said.
She also apologized for failing to inform recipients of the closure in time and said an explanation notice displaying the address and phone number of the temporary office would be posted at the office on Gongqing Road.
Those still waiting for packages can call 39284118 to locate them, YTO Express said.
