Annaud will chair film fest jury
FAMED French director Jean-Jacques Annaud, whose credits include "The Lover" and "The Name of the Rose," will chair the seven-member Golden Goblet award jury at the 15th Shanghai International Film Festival, organizers said yesterday.
Officials with the festival, set for June 16-24, said the judging panel also includes Iranian director Rakhshan Bani-Etemad, Chinese-American film producer Terence Chang, American actress Heather Graham, Hungarian director Bela Tarr, mainland director Zhang Yang and actress Li Bingbing.
During the festival, "The Name of the Rose," Tarr's "The Turin Horse" and Bani-Etemad's "Gilane" will be screened.
More than 400 film celebrities will attend the opening ceremony, including Hollywood actor Aaron Eckhart, Dutch actress Famke Janssen, Japanese heartthrob Hiroyuki Ikeuchi, South Korean actor Kwon Sang-woo, Hong Kong actors Tony Leung and Chow Yun-fat, and mainland actress Zhang Ziyi.
According to the organizers, so far 417 film companies and buyers have registered at the fest's international film market. Industry experts, filmmakers and scriptwriters will also be invited to discuss how to tell Chinese stories to the world as well as film creativity and possible collaboration between film and new media.
