Another ammonia leak scare in Pudong

Another liquid ammonia leakage was reported at Shanghai Hongfeng Refrigeration Plant in Pudong New Area’s Tangzhen Town about 10:20pm on Sunday.
The cause of the leak was blamed on workers who were checking the valves of the ammonia. The seal ring of the valve was old and found to be loose, resulting in the leakage which lasted for less than a minute.
Workers in the plant and nearby residents smelt pungent fumes. There were no causalities. The plant produces ice bricks.
Police, work safety authorities and environmental monitoring department are investigating the leakage.
