Areas target 4 groups of readers at Book Fair
CUSTOMIZED reading rooms targeting different reading groups will be a highlight at this year's Shanghai Book Fair, the organizer said yesterday.
Nearly 500 publishing houses and 300 cultural celebrities from home and abroad will gather at the fair, to be held from August 15-21 at the Shanghai Exhibition Center. Admission is 10 yuan (US$1.57).
The four reading rooms are tailored for different visitors including children, families, white-collar workers and entrepreneurs. Each will exhibit more than 400 books.
"Building four open studies at the exhibition venue is a way through which we want to tell readers reading is beautiful, said Kang Ninghui, deputy director of the Shanghai Press and Publication Bureau.
Kang said the bureau added more computer terminals for readers to look up books they want to buy and activities they want to attend.
All books exhibited at the main venue carry a 20 percent discount, with a 10 percent discount on books at more than 20 sub-venues across Shanghai during the book fair.
Visitors who live far from the fair or in other provinces can have books delivered to their homes through designated express companies with a payment lower than the market price, Kang said.
The fair provides free Wi-Fi service, the organizer said.
This year's international literature forum, which will take place on August 17 in JC Mandarin Hotel on Nanjing Road W., has many famous writers on its invitation list, such as British novelists David Mitchell and Joe Dunthorne, Spanish writer Susana Fortes and Japanese novelist Atoda Takashi.
