Arrest for 11-year-old robberies
A MAN implicated in the robberies of motorcycle cabbies 11 years ago has been arrested, according to Jiading District People’s Procuratorate.
The suspect, surnamed Yi, 38, was operating an illegal motorcycle taxi service in 2007, together with two friends surnamed Cui and Wang.
As their motorcycles were old, they decided to rob two other operators of illegal motorcycle services. They lured one cabbie to a remote place where they robbed him of his bike, prosecutors said.
They stole two other motorcycles in two days. Cui and Wang were detained for the last robbery, but Yi managed to escape. Cui and Wang were sentenced to 10 and nine years behind bars in 2008.
Yi and his wife and child left Shanghai to live in Zhuji in Zhejiang Province. He assumed the name of Zhao, an associate from his hometown.
Police became suspicious after he dodged showing his ID for population registration, saying he had forgotten to bring it from his hometown.
Zhuji police arrested him and handed him to Shanghai police in September.
