Arrests of father and son approved in stabbing death of German expat
THE arrests of a father and son accused in the stabbing death of a German national at a hotpot restaurant last month were approved yesterday by the People’s Procuratorate of the Pudong New Area.
The men, surnamed Wu, were arrested on suspicion of intentional injury, officials said.
The son told police he suspected the German of having an affair with his wife. He went to Hai Di Lao Hotpot restaurant on Zhangyang Road on December 12 as his wife and the German man, who worked together, were dining with their colleagues.
Wu said he feared confronting the foreigner, who was bigger than him, so he bought a sharp knife in a nearby department store and called his father to help him commit the assault.
The expat was stabbed in the head and left shoulder three or four times. Police and emergency workers rushed to the scene but the victim had died of his wounds before resuscitation efforts could be performed.
