Arsonist tells court he set fires to release his pressure
A Shanghai man who burned bicycles to release work pressure has been sentenced to five years in prison by the Putuo District People's Court today.
Shao Jun, 37, turned himself in to police after committing five arson acts in a neighborhood in Yichuang area last April, damaging three bicycles and a moped worth about 3,000 yuan.
Prosecutors said Shao used a lighter to ignite the bike saddle covered with inflammables. He watched with delight as the fire engulfed the bike and ran away before being recognized.
Shao claimed in the court that he was drunk and had an urge to burn something to release his job pressure.
