New gallery along Suzhou Creek to showcase modern art
A NEW gallery of modern art to showcase the work of 12 Chinese artists opened yesterday in Shanghai.
The Vanvory Art Gallery on Suzhou Road S. in Huangpu District, occupies two of the four floors of the former Yee Tsoong Tobacco Co Building, which from the 1920s to the 1940s was home to British American Tobacco.
After a yearlong renovation program, the gallery is now replete with paintings, sculptures, multimedia displays and other installations from some of China’s best modern artists, said Gu Enhong, its chief designer. The gallery is open daily and is free to enter.
