Autumn鈥檚 arrived! And that鈥檚 official
THE season of mists and mellow fruitfulness has officially begun in Shanghai.
Following five consecutive days with an average temperature below 22 degrees Celsius recorded, October 4 was yesterday announced as the start of autumn by the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.
Kong Chunyan, a chief service officer with the bureau, told Shanghai Daily that this is around the time the city usually sees the arrival of autumn, with October 2 often the start date.
Pleasant autumn weather, with clear skies and temperatures ranging from 18 to 26 degrees, can be expected for much of the remainder of the week, said forecasters.
This is thanks to the influence of a high pressure front over the city, though it may become more overcast on Friday and Saturday.
Yesterday marked solar term hanlu — meaning cold dew — which indicates the coming of cold months when morning dew is transformed into frost.
From Monday a colder spell is forecast, with the high slipping to 22 degrees.
Meanwhile, although the typhoon season is mostly done, the bureau still warned that the threat of tropical storms couldn’t be ruled out.
Historically, Shanghai has been hit by typhoons in October.
