Baby left behind in hospital toilet
POLICE still haven’t been able to locate the parents of a newborn baby boy who was found in the toilet of Fengxian Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital on Sunday.
A hand-written note next to the baby suggested the boy was being given up for adoption as the parents could not afford to bring him up.
The baby is in Fengxian Central Hospital in Nanqiao Town, where abandoned children are given medical checks and necessary treatment. He is doing well, the hospital told Shanghai Daily yesterday.
“My poor child, it’s all my fault. I hope kind-hearted people can adopt him. I feel reluctant to give him up every time I look at his lovely face, but I have no choice. I’m not able to feed him. He is a healthy boy. Thank you again, kind-hearted people,” the message on the note read. The note said the baby was born on October 3.
Ji Xiangling, a spokesperson of Fengxian Central Hospital, said the baby was probably born in a hospital, given that the plastic bag found with him contained umbilical cord care products, dusting powder and baby formula.
Ji said the baby will be handed over to the welfare center for children if the police fail to locate the parents.
