Bank clerks get 13 years jail

THE Shanghai No. 2 Intermediate People's Court yesterday sentenced former bank clerk Xu Jianhua to 13 years in prison and colleague Li Zhenying to 12 years for embezzling 32.1 million yuan (US$4.69 million) from the Changzheng branch of the Shanghai Rural Commercial Bank.
In March 2005 the duo instructed Xu's two apprentices to open accounts with virtual deposits and withdrew the money. In addition, the pair falsified the company seals and withdrew money from company accounts. Xu's apprentices, surnamed Chen and Fan, were sentenced three years in prison with a probation period of five years.
