Bank robber gets 6 years

A MAN who held a woman hostage during a robbery attempt at the Beicai branch of the Agricultural Bank of China in July was yesterday sentenced to six years in prison. The 35-year-old, who had run up debts of 4 million yuan (US$650,000) gambling on soccer matches, was detained by police with the help of two security guards, a cleaner and two members of the public. Each of the five was awarded 10,000 yuan for their bravery.
