Banker has jail term extended
AN appeal court yesterday increased the sentence handed down to a former bank official convicted of bribe-taking.
The person, surnamed Huang, was originally sentenced to a suspended three-year prison sentence for taking 300,000 yuan (US$46,000) worth of bribes, but this was yesterday increased to five years in prison at the Shanghai No. 2 Intermediate People’s Court.
The original suspended sentence was deemed too lenient by the Jing’an District Prosecutor’s Office, which launched the appeal.
Huang surrendered himself to police following an investigation last year.
