Bat-bitten mom wins court case
A new mother bitten by bats during her stay in a rehabilitation center for puerperium care won her case and was compensated 5,613 yuan (US$887) yesterday in Changning District People's Court.
The 37-year-old mother, surnamed Chen, was awakened by a fierce pain at midnight last May, turned on the light and found several bats flying in her room. The woman was bitten on her lips and the bites caused massive red spots on her face and body in the following days.
To avoid rabies, Chen had a vaccine injection and could not feed her new baby for a month, the court heard.
Chen said she was very disappointed at the rehabilitation center, located in Zhangjiang of the Pudong New Area, because she had expected better nursing care and paid more than 20,000 yuan to the center for a month's stay.
