Bickering ends with ‘murder’
A 41-year-old woman has been charged with murder for suffocating her mother-in-law after years of trivial arguments, Putuo District prosecutors said yesterday.
The suspect surnamed Zhang had stayed with her mother-in-law, 83, since 2006, during which time the two often quarreled over daily trifles.
On the evening of May 11, the mother-in-law scolded Zhang over clothes sent by her stepdaughter, making the accused angry for hours, prosecutors said.
Feeling unwell, she asked to use her mother-in-law’s blood pressure monitor, but was refused. Prosecutors said Zhang was again scolded and slapped in the face. Zhang then suffocated the woman with a pillow.
