Bicycle man charged in son’s death
A father caused his young son’s death by riding his bicycle in a careless manner, prosecutors in Changning District claimed yesterday.
The man, surnamed Lin, who is charged with causing a traffic casualty, was riding an electric bicycle with his 3-year-old son on the back on August 25 last year. As they were travelling along Dingxi Road, he lost his balance because he was steering with only one hand, resulting in his son being thrown to the ground and having his head crushed by a taxi.
Despite the grieving father’s deep remorse, the Changning District People’s Procuratorate decided to press charges.
“His negligence caused a person’s death, so he should be punished by the law,” said prosecutor Qin Shuangshun. “But since this case is a special one, we’ll try to seek a lenient penalty for him from the court.”
