Big plans for New Bund area
THE Pudong New Area government plans to develop the Qiantan Area into the city’s next financial center.
The high-end locality will also have a residential area for 25,000 residents, many of whom are expected to be foreigners, said Tao Jianwen, general manager of the New Bund business district investment group.
Lying on the south of the former Expo 2010 site, Qiantan will make up for some of the design flaws when the city’s first financial hub, Lujiazui, took shape. It will be more friendly for people in the community, Tao said.
“The area will include more walking and cycling paths and sightseeing facilities,” Tao added.
The Qiantan, or the New Bund, area will include international schools, hospitals, theaters and shopping malls to support the community. It is expected to be completed by 2020.
A new kindergarten and a school, targeting local children, will be completed and start enrolling from 2017, local officials announced yesterday.
