Birthday light show for iconic skyscraper

Shanghai World Financial Center will launch a light show on its exterior from Friday through November 17 to celebrate its fifth anniversary, organizers announced yesterday.

The light show, named “Filter the Public,” will light up the city’s iconic “bottle opener” skyscraper in Pudong’s Lujiazui area from about 6pm.

The building has been covered with LEDs for the extravaganza, an SWFC press officer said yesterday.

Three local artists will create different themes for the show every night.

For one theme, called “Infinite,” numerous crosses will form an image of Shanghai.

And pictures of some 10,000 people will be taken and shown on the building as a highlight of the show.

This showcase, named “10,000 Faces Over the Rainbow,” will feature the faces of 10,000 people entering the building between November 4 and 10.

Each face will be shown on the building for 12 seconds.

Meanwhile, 13 modern artists will exhibit 139 works in the building for the Shanghai Galleries Selection 2013 and Curatorial Projects.
