Blacklist targets ayi who use fake documents to get hired
MORE than 30 domestic service companies in the city have created a blacklist of dishonest ayi who provide fake documents, including identity cards, health certificates or resumes, in interviews.
The companies, which have over 200 franchises across the city, are members of an industry information-sharing association. Those who are on the blacklist will no longer be recruited by the member companies.
Other blacklist violations include asking others to fill in for them at work and threatening to quit in order to extract a raise in pay.
Three ayi have been blacklisted since the system was launched on March 1.
“We want to build up a better culture in the industry, with more self-discipline and less dishonesty,” Xia Jun, the association’s founder, told Shanghai Daily.
The domestic service industry has long been known for its high staff turnover, as it’s common for ayi to switch from agency to agency to get better jobs.
“Some ayi provide fake documents during interviews, either to save themselves the trouble of getting proper ones, or to get higher pay,” Xia said. “Once they are identified by a company, they can easily switch to another one and cheat again.”
Xia, who has been working in the industry for 16 years, is the manager of Aijun Domestic Service Company. “Faking documents is the biggest problem in the industry, accounting for half of all reported issues,” Xia said, adding that the problem is growing and that new violations could be added in future.
One local ayi who has been working in the industry for 13 years said she welcomes the blacklist because it will help to improve the industry’s image by barring dishonest ayi from the job market.
“People now like to post everything online,” she said. “If someone encounters a bad ayi, he or she will spread it on the internet. And it really harms people’s impression of the industry.”
