Blitz on dangerous headlights

DRIVERS who illegally use high beam at night are now being educated by being made to look at a strong light, and five drivers were among the first to be given a lesson yesterday to show them the dangers of looking into bright headlights.

Traffic police in Yangpu District set up a roadblock at the crossroads of Songhu Road and Yinhang Road in the New Jiangwan City between 6 and 7pm.

A driver surnamed Zuo caught using a high beam said the street was too dark and that he used the light for his own safety. When asked to look at the high beam of his car, he said:

“OK, there’s a problem.”

Drivers either lose one point from their license and receive a 50 yuan (US$8) in fine, or have point deducted and receive a formal warning.
