Body of 鈥榳histleblower鈥 executive found in river

THE telecommunications executive from Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell who was reported missing in January was found dead last month, Shanghai Television reported yesterday.
Police launched a search for Human Resources Director Jia Lining on January 16 after he was reported missing by his family.
According to the TV report, Jia was found dead in a stream running from the Huangpu River. It did not give an exact location or cause of death.
Prior to his disappearance, Jia is reported to have posted a letter to a WeChat group run by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission in which he accused senior executives of Shanghai Bell, including its chairman Yuan Xing, of corruption and abuse of power.
The company said Jia’s allegations have been investigated internally, but that many of his charges had no basis in fact. If such an investigation was conducted, its results have not been made public.
According to an earlier report by caixin.com, a Shanghai Bell employee said Jia, 45, lost contact with his family and friends about 20 minutes after the letter was posted to the WeChat group. His car was later found abandoned on Yangpu Bridge.
A source close to the SASAC was quoted by the website as saying that Jia’s allegations were very detailed, and included the names of senior figures within Shanghai Bell and its subsidiaries, and their alleged violations.
