Bomb hoaxer gets 4 months’ jail
A man was yesterday sentenced to serve 4 months in prison for sparking a bomb threat on a ferry.
The incident happened on October 12 last year as the suspect, surnamed Hu, was riding his motorcycle onto the vessel.
When a guard asked him to stop for a routine security check, Hu shouted the word “bomb,” causing several passengers on the boat to flee in fear.
In court Hu said he was in a rush and made the threat simply to confuse the guard into letting him get on the ferry without delay.
The guard was unperturbed, however, and with the help of colleagues apprehended the migrant worker and called police.
Police later confirmed that Hu was not in possession of any explosive materials. Operations at the ferry station were temporarily suspended in the wake of the incident.
