Bomb hoaxer wanted police to help him find his girlfriend

A MAN who threatened to blow up Hongqiao International Airport if police didn't help him look for his girlfriend was jailed for 10 months yesterday.

The man, surnamed Xu, had called the police hotline 110 six times, the Changning District People's Court was told. The first call was made at midnight on December 27 last year.

Using the excuse that his girlfriend had reported her motorbike stolen, he asked them to tell him where she was.

But the police said they hadn't received any report.

Xu called police again late the next night. He claimed he was a gang member in Shenyang, Liaoning Province and that his girlfriend had reported the loss of her motorbike to a police station in Songjiang District.

If police didn't help look for his girlfriend, he threatened to carry out a terrorist attack in Songjiang.

He called them again 10 minutes later threatening to explode a bomb at Hongqiao International Airport on January 1.

Xu called police another three times on December 29 and 30, repeating his airport bomb threat.

But police were on his trail and Xu was caught in an Internet cafe in Liaoning Province on December 31.
