Books on stock market in big demand
STOCK market related books were the most popular among people over 40, Shanghai Library said yesterday.
Aviation books were also in demand following a streak of air accidents last year.
The Shanghai Library reached its conclusions based on the reading records of over 3.1 million borrowers.
Young readers read more books on economics than middle-aged and elderly readers, who prefer classics and biographies. Literary books by Chinese and European writers were also in big demand.
Though online novels and classic books of Chinese martial arts have always been popular, movies about them brought readers back looking for the original novels such as “The Criminal Lu Yanshi” that was adapted to the film “Coming Home” directed by Zhang Yimou.
Books on children’s education were popular among people between the ages of 20 and 39.
Middle-aged readers also preferred books about traditional cultures, while those older than 60 loved readings about fishing, Chinese chess, and taijiquan, an ancient Chinese exercise.
