Boy, 16, jailed for 33 months after raping 30-year-old woman and stealing her cellphone

A 16-YEAR-OLD who admitted raping a 30-year-old woman and stealing her cellphone has been jailed for two years and nine months, Putuo District People’s Court said yesterday.
In a statement, it said he escaped a heavier sentence because he surrendered to police and his victim had forgiven him.
The court said the boy, a restaurant worker, had seen a woman, apparently drunk, wandering in his residential complex when he arrived home from work at 3am on August 26.
He grabbed her by the throat and forced her to go to his apartment where he raped her.
Before he let her go, he stole her cellphone.
The woman, who also lived in the complex, told her landlord about the incident and the boy was quickly identified.
After his parents were called, he surrendered to police. The court said they paid their son’s victim 20,000 yuan (US$3,130) compensation.
