Brave woman fends off robber

A YOUNG saleswoman put up a fight with a knife-wielding man who tried to rob a shoe store over the weekend.

The 25-year-old woman is in stable condition after receiving bruises to her head and hands. The 46-year-old suspect from Guangdong Province has been caught, xinmin.cn reported.

The incident occurred about 9am on Saturday on Nanchang Road.

Witnesses said the man, with a brick and a knife, entered the store when he saw it had only one female salesperson.

But the saleswoman put up an unusual resistance, forcing the man to flee without taking anything with him.

A man, who called police and ambulance, said he saw the woman with blood all over her face, running out of the store with a knife in her hand. She was calling for help.

At first he thought she was mentally unstable and stayed away, he wrote on his microblog.

After making sure she was not unstable, he walked toward her.

A traffic policeman who was patrolling the area saw the suspect running and caught him in a nearby residential complex.

The woman, who was injured, was rushed to the hospital.

Police are investigating the case.
