Bus company apologizes for pugilistic driver
THE city's public bus operator apologized to passengers who took the No. 836 bus for an incident in which the bus driver left the bus to have a fight with a man, leaving the passengers waiting for six minutes.
Shanghai Bashi Group said the No. 836 bus was about to leave Qujiaqiao Station when two men ran to the bus in order to get on at about 8am on August 22.
One of the men stood in front of the bus to stop it since the driver refused to open the bus door at first. The driver finally let two men get on the bus, the company said.
However, one of the men threw the driver's employee card onto the floor and quarreled with him after he got on. Then the driver and the man got off the bus and fought with each other for six minutes, the city's bus operator said.
Other passengers called police and then left for work because the driver kept struggling with the man. The man paid 400 yuan (US$65.29) as compensation to the driver because the driver was injured, police said.
The bus company said it did not fire the driver but will take disciplinary measures against him.
