CPPCC Shanghai Committee convenes today

THE annual session of the Shanghai Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference began this morning at the Expo Center.
It is one of the most important sessions of the committee, a political advisory body to the municipal government. Representatives including former NBA star Yao Ming gathered to discuss a wide range of urban development issues.
The Shanghai Municipal People's Congress will also convene tomorrow with Mayor Han Zheng scheduled to deliver the annual government work report.
Legislators will discuss draft laws and regulations and pass major government decisions regarding the city's development.
Both plenary sessions will conclude next Monday with Mayor Han Zheng giving a news conference to domestic and foreign media.
