Cab driver caught out yet again
A former taxi driver was caught by the city’s traffic law enforcement team picking up passengers after his business license had been revoked in July.
The authority said yesterday that the former cab driver was exposed in numerous media reports for “cherry picking” and even insulting passengers last month.
After investigation, the authority found the driver, surnamed Li, had his business license revoked in July for repeated violations including taking unnecessary detours and cherry picking.
Li’s vehicle was on monitoring lists in taxi stands of transportation hubs in the city and was found queuing to pick up passengers in front of Hongqiao Railway Station on November 9.
He was now under further investigation and faced an administrative penalty of 2,000 yuan (US$290), the authority said. The vehicle he was using was detained.
The authority said that more than 27,000 violations involving the taxi industry took place from January 2014 to October this year.
