Cabbie jailed for manslaughter

A TAXI driver, who got into a scuffle with a 60-year-old man which led to his death, was sentenced to a year in jail for manslaughter by the Yangpu District People’s Court yesterday.

The cabbie, surnamed Chen, picked up an elderly couple from a local hospital on April 23, 2013. They had an argument during the ride, and the victim, surnamed Wu, threatened to file a complaint with the taxi company.

A scuffle ensued and Chen kept hitting Wu even though his wife kept telling the driver that he was a heart patient.

After a security guard intervened and stopped the fight, Wu slumped on the ground and was rushed to the hospital, where he died of heart attack.
