Car green stickers to go
SHANGHAI environmental protection authority will stop issuing “green label” sticker to cars starting from June 10.
The sticker, which is required to be pasted on the top corner of the windshield, served as a certificate that the car had met the emission discharge standard. The authority said that as Shanghai had eliminated all yellow-labeled, or heavy polluting, vehicles last year, the need for a green label was no longer necessary.
An emission exam was now a compulsory part of the annual check required of a vehicle, the authority said.
For a car, passing the annual check meant that it had met the emission standard, which would no longer require confirmation from the environmental protection authority in the form of a label, officials said.
The cancelation of the green label means car owners no longer have to pick up the sticker from the environment authority every two years.
The full list of the annual check spots issued by Shanghai Environmental Protection Bureau is available on the bureau’s website: www.sepb.gov.cn.
