Car plate bidders set to test new system
A simulated car license plate auction will be held tomorrow to test the city’s new online system prior to its scheduled launch at the end of the month.
The dress rehearsal is intended to give would-be buyers the chance to familiarize themselves with the new system — which is website-based rather than running from pre-installed software on people’s computers — prior to it going live, Xinmin Evening News reported yesterday.
To take part in the mock sale, people must be registered bidders and have taken part in no more than six previous sales.
The event starts at 7:30pm and participants will be able to bid for 5,000 plates. The website address is test.alltobid.com.
Shanghai Commodity International Auction Co, which runs the monthly auctions, was quoted as saying that the new system is designed to speed up data handling and make the sale process smoother.
Its introduction comes after repeated complaints from auction participants of technical glitches and the unfair practices of professional bidders.
Some people have claimed of being unable to submit bids within the allotted time frame due to online traffic congestion, while others have argued that bidding agents have employed specialist software and hundreds of computers to give them an unfair advantage, the report said.
