Car scratcher drives to 10-month prison term

A Shanghai private car owner was given a 10-month jail term by Xuhui District People’s Court for deliberately scratching cars in his residential complex because he couldn’t find a parking lot.

Unable to find a regular parking place, the accounting manager, surnamed Liu, owner of an imported Audi, used a coffee spoon or car key to scratch three cars three times from November last year to January. His behavior was discovered by a car owner who followed Liu to his home and reported him to police.

Liu’s behavior caused damages of about 26,000 yuan (US$4,194), the court heard.
