Carjacker jailed for 8 years

A man who used a fake gun to carjack a woman and her 4-year-old daughter outside the girl’s kindergarten and later fled with cash and goods worth more than 14,000 yuan (US$2,060), was yesterday jailed for eight years by the local court.
The June 6 incident occurred outside the toddler’s school in Nanyang Road in Jing’an District as the 33-year-old mother driving a Mercedes-Benz was picking her daughter up, the People’s Court heard.
As she was about to drive off, the accused, surnamed Yin, 30, jumped into the car and sat beside the girl in the back seat.
He pulled out a toy gun he had bought on the Internet and forced the woman to drive to Jiangsu Province. As they drove, Yin told the woman he needed the money to save his severely-ill child and promised he wanted only the money and did no want to hurt them, the court heard.
The court also heard the tale about the sick child was a lie.
In a bank in Kunshan City, the woman took out 9,200 yuan from an automatic teller machine. He later took the cash and a mobile phone before letting the pair go.
