Cash payout for software infringement
A Shanghai company has been ordered to pay a German software provider 1.18 million yuan (US$177,000) compensation for running commercial training sessions for its products without permission.
According to Shanghai Intellectual Property Court, the software and technology solutions provider SAP sued Shanghai Langze Management Consulting Company for violating its intellectual property rights.
The plaintiff said Langze taught nearly 1,000 customers how to use SAP-produced software, earning nearly 20 million yuan in tuition fees.
Langze was not SAP’s authorized training provider, and running its courses undermined SAP’s partner training agent, said the plaintiff.
SAP said it takes a percentage of the earnings when a training agent uses its software, and therefore Langze owed it compensation of 5 million yuan.
