Changning unveils Smart Community
Changning District will launch a Smart Community service on mobile phones that will allow residents to make appointments with doctors, or shop at nearby grocery stores.
The mobile Smart Community network will be tested on two neighborhoods of the district first before being expanded to other areas of the district, said Lin Kesi, director of the Changning Science and Technology Commission.
Through the mobile phone network, residents can check the prices of different grocery stores, how long they have to wait at hospitals and what the traffic and parking conditions are around their localities.
After entering the identity card number, they can also check their medical history and make appointments with doctors at hospitals.
They can also pay utility bills and even shop at a nearby supermarket through the network, with products delivered to their homes in 10 minutes.
The network is also available on the televisions and electronic screens in certain communities across the district.
The Smart Community network is currently available on television mainly in Minhang District.
It will be expanded to more than 2,000 communities in Shanghai by the end of the year.
Meanwhile, Changning officials said they had upgraded a popular learning website www.chnlc.net.
Some 100,000 residents, mostly retired people, have benefitted from the website since it was launched in 2008.
The district has invested some 10 million yuan (US$1.64 million) per year to build the platform for residents to keep learning, said Chen Sheli, director of the Changning Learning City office.
Chen said it was part of their efforts to boost possibilities for residents, who can also learn university lessons and skills like piano and painting.
The upgraded version also includes lectures for white-collar workers at the district’s various industrial parks.
All the online lessons and services are free.
