Charging post subsidy mooted
SUBSIDIES for installing charging posts may be offered to owners of environmentally friendly cars, transport officials said yesterday.
They may also be eligible for reductions on parking fees and tolls, the city’s transport commission said in a reply to political adviser Tu Haiming.
Currently, owners of hybrid and electric cars can get a free Shanghai license plate.
Last month, the average price of a Shanghai car plate at the city auction was more than 83,000 yuan (US$12,995).
But this scheme is due to end at the end of the year and Tu urged the authorities to expand subsidies on offer.
In February, conditions were added to the free plate scheme, requiring car buyers to prove they can install charging posts at their parking spaces.
Shanghai has the highest number of green vehicles in China.
A total of 10,644 hit the road in 2014 — including 8,235 hybrid vehicles and 2,403 electric vehicles.
The city aims to get 20,000 more green vehicles on its roads this year.
A total of 2,311 charging posts were installed from 2013 to 2014.
