China Expo Complex opens
FOLLOWING three years of construction work, the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) — said to be the world’s biggest single-block exhibition complex — opens this weekend.
As a pilot event before the official opening ceremony, the 1.47 million square meter center — also known as the China Expo Complex — will host the China International Auto Products Expo.
It is expected that 50,000 visitors a day will attend the three-day event.
Located 1.5 kilometers from the Hongqiao transport hub, the center is within easy reach of Hongqiao Airport and the Hongqiao Railway Station via Metro Line 2.
And it is only one or two hours’ drive from the major cities in the Yangtze River Delta region.
Work on the project, funded by both central and local government, started in 2011, to help drive China’s economic restructuring and support the exhibition industry.
The center offers 500,000 square meters of exhibition space.
Three fairs will be held in the center before the new year, and more than 10 events have already been put on the calendar for next year, according to the center’s website.
