City expects to see variable weather

RESIDENTS are warned to brace for changeable weather conditions early this month.

Rain fell on Tuesday night, with Chongming District recording precipitation of 18.3 millimeters from 8pm on Tuesday to 7am yesterday. There was a short respite from the downpour yesterday, but the city experienced strong wind.

The Shanghai Meteorological Bureau issued a blue gale alert at 9:30pm on Tuesday, and gave its second alert — a yellow — at 11:33am yesterday, suggesting that outdoor work be suspended.

A cold front from the north hit the city last night, lowering temperature and blowing in pollutants.

Today is forecast cloudy, with some showers at night. Temperature will range between 7 and 14 degrees Celsius. Moderate air pollution, with tiny PM2.5 particles being the major pollutants, may occur around noon, according to the city’s environmental protection center.

Tomorrow, which is Lantern Festival — the 15th day of the lunar calendar — will be overcast to drizzly. The high temperature will fall to 11 degrees.

Saturday is set to be cloudy, and the high will rise to 20 degrees. Showers are likely on Sunday, with the high at 22 degrees. Next Monday, it will fall sharply to 9 degrees, according to forecasters.
