City helping girl facing blindness
A NINE-YEAR-OLD girl suffering from multiple eye diseases that, if untreated, could leave her blind within two months is receiving medical help in Shanghai.
The plight of impoverished Zhong Xinyue, from the Yugu minority group in Gansu Province, gained widespread attention after her story was told on Weibo.com microblog site.
Dr Li Guanghui from Shanghai Prime Eye Hospital learned of her plight and contacted the city government which arranged for Zhong to come to Shanghai for treatment at the hospital.
"There is the possibility of complete blindness within a month or two if she does not receive treatment," Li said.
Li said doctors are working on a long-term treatment plan. "Her vision is improving," Li said.
