City lists tasks to improve efficiency

Shanghai has listed a series of tasks to build the municipal government into a more efficient body over the next five years.

These go in line with the State Council’s requirements for municipal governments by 2020.

Shanghai will adjust government functions to meet social and commercial needs for more innovative prosperity in the city’s development.

It will improve administrative management measures and involve the public in decision-making and supervision procedures.

Tasks include raising the quality of legislation; promoting transparency in government information; and shortening unnecessary administrative approval procedures.

To improve transparency in government information, district and county level governments will be required to publicize expenses on governmental trips, vehicles and receptions by next year.

More emphasis will also be placed on dealing with stubborn social problems such as illegal building.
