City woman killed in Tasmania
A TOURIST from Shanghai was killed and another seriously injured in Tasmania, Australia, after the rented car they were in crashed against a tree on Monday.
The victim was a woman in her twenties and worked as an HR in the city. She was sitting behind the driver’s seat.
The group of four tourists — all from Shanghai — were driving towards Launceston on Monday afternoon when the accident happened.
Initial investigation showed the driver lost control of the car after overtaking a truck and hit a tree, according to the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Melbourne.
The victim was pronounced dead at the hospital. Two others were slightly injured.
The consulate reminded Chinese tourists to study local traffic rules before making any trips and to be careful while driving in a strange environment. In January, four women from Shanghai were injured in Turkey while driving a car which was involved in an accident. Two of them did not have insurance.
