City's land official indicted on corruption charges

A top official of Shanghai's land administration and urban planning has been charged with bribery, local prosecutors said today.
Hu Jun, 46, former deputy director of the Shanghai Planning, Land and Resources Administration, allegedly accepted a huge amount of bribes from companies and individuals before and after he took the post in 2008. But the amount was not revealed.
Prosecutors said Hu had served as director of the urban planning administration of Shanghai's downtown Jing'an District between 1997 and 2003 and vice director of Chongming County from 2003 and 2008.
Shanghai disciplinary authorities began investigating Hu's illegal activities after receiving a tip-off. He was arrested on March 15, prosecutors said.
A native of Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu Province, Hu graduated from Nanjing University with a Doctor's degree in urban planning and worked in a postdoctoral center in the Construction and Urban Planning College of Shanghai Tongji University. He was promoted to associate professor for his outstanding academic achievement when he was 28.
