Compensation for Go-Kart crash victim

THE Jiading District People’s Court yesterday ordered the owners of a Go-Kart circuit to pay 330,000 yuan (US$51,829) compensation to a 22-year-old woman who was badly injured in a crash while go-karting.

In May last year, the woman, surnamed Shu, went to race at a popular go-karting track outside the Shanghai Circuit in Jiading District.

While karting, she missed a turn and skidded off the track and landed on the grass.

As advised by her coach, she remained on the spot and waved her hands to grab the attention of the circuit workers. But another racer skidded at the same spot and landed on her.

After being taken to the hospital, Shu was diagnosed with visceral rupture, fractures and bruises.

She later filed a lawsuit and demanded compensation from the circuits’ owners.

Shu said the circuit workers neither arrived at the scene on time nor did they make any efforts to ask other racers to slow down.
