Cosmetic product woes rise
JUST over 1,200 cases of adverse reactions to cosmetic products were recorded in Shanghai last year, up 11 percent from 2016, according to the local Food and Drug Administration.
These incidents involved 1,425 products, 82 percent of which were intended for skin care. Other products included perfumes, hair dye and sunscreen.
Of these items, about 70 percent had known sources. In total, 543 came from online sellers and another 385 came from physical stores.
Contact dermatitis accounted for over 95 percent of the cases, followed by acne.
Of the persons affected, 1,134 were females. Over 73 percent were between 20 and 50 years old, according to the administration. The cases were reported by medical institutions and companies.
